Apparently the Metropole Orchestra twitter person was mistaken, and Tori Amos and the orchestra will just be playing new arrangements, not entirely new songs. And thus, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth across the land. Ah well, there is more than enough in her back catalog to fill the show and have it all be incredible and I wasn’t counting on hearing anything new before today...

David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails- Hallo Spaceboy (live from 1995) Pro-shot footage of the NIN/Bowie tour from 1995 has finally surfaced, and the duet performance of “Hurt” has been getting all the online hype. However, I find this performance to be much more interesting, because it sums up why the two acts together and Bowie’s diversion into industrial in the 90’s in...

Pour More Oil by Her Name Is Calla Her Name is Calla are an up-and-coming British band with a penchant for creating beautiful and atmospheric music. This track, from their upcoming debut album The Quiet Lamb, is slower to start than I would normally like, but the beautiful harmonies reminiscent of Grizzly Bear keep things interesting enough until the delicate but stoic main vocals kicks in...

tylercoates: barthel: Jesus fuck.  “One above and two below.”  Good lord. There’s a lot we could say about this, even without getting into biography.  Autobiography, though, is a different story.  For instance, I could talk about Matthew’s distinction between 90s indie as emotionally reserved and cerebral and 00s indie as emotionally open and visceral.  For me, this sorta explains why I...

Hole- Violet/He Hit Me… (Saturday Night Live 1994) I had been looking for this video on Youtube to show my sister, and couldn’t find it, probably due to how SNL flags any of their content on youtube, but luckily I remembered I had downloaded it years ago and found it hidden on my external hard drive. This is a thunderous performance of Violet, and one of the things that’s so...

This House Is Like Russia...
You can listen to the Tori Amos concert in Moscow live (for the next 2 hours at least) here: http://www.silver.ru/radio/ Since this is her first ever show in Russia, I’m betting she’ll bring her A-game and it’ll be filled with old classics as well as a full performance of the incredible epic Yes, Anastasia.
